Governance & Decision-Making

Who runs CCDC, and how are decisions made?

CCDC is governed by a self-perpetuating Board of Directors responsible for financial oversight, policy enforcement, and ensuring the club remains aligned with its Catholic mission and artistic vision. The Artistic Director handles play selection and production decisions. Parents and volunteers play a key role in supporting productions, but governance decisions rest with leadership to ensure stability and mission alignment.

Can parents attend Board meetings?

No. Board meetings are not public as they involve financial planning, policy decisions, and confidential discussions. However, parents can provide structured feedback through post-production reviews, direct communication with Board members, and involvement in volunteer leadership roles.

How can I get on the Board?

Board positions are filled by nomination and vote from current members based on leadership needs and mission alignment. Parents who demonstrate commitment through consistent volunteering and leadership roles may be considered for a position when a vacancy arises.

Can parents vote on what play is done next year?

No. The Artistic Director selects productions based on artistic merit, educational value, and mission-driven considerations. Suggestions are welcome, but final decisions are made to ensure the best experience for the cast and audience. Suggestions are welcome, but final selection is made to serve the club’s mission and storytelling goals and to ensure the best experience for the cast and audience.

Can parents vote on decisions like play selection or finances?

CCDC is not a co-op; decisions are made to ensure mission alignment, artistic integrity, and long-term stability rather than shifting based on popular vote. While parent input is valued, governance decisions remain the responsibility of the Board and Artistic Director.

Financial Transparency

Where does CCDC’s money go?

Revenue from ticket sales and participation fees covers venue rental, script licensing, costumes, props, technical equipment, insurance, and administrative costs. Additionally, 10% of proceeds are donated to Catholic Charities, scholarships that support student participation, and long-term club expenses.

Is there a publicly available financial report?

As a 501(c)(3), CCDC is not required to make financial statements public. CCDC follows responsible budgeting and financial oversight. While a full public report is not provided, parents/donors can request a general budget overview from the Board.

Why does CCDC charge participation fees?

Fees help cover script costs, production expenses, and club operations. Families receive complimentary tickets as part of their investment, and scholarships are available for financial hardship.

Auditions & Participation

How can my child get cast in a CCDC production?

Attend auditions! Casting in roles is based on performance ability, commitment, and attitude.

Your child must:
✅ Be a Catholic homeschooled student (or a returning participant)
Attend auditions
Commit to rehearsals & performance dates

What if my child doesn’t get the role they want?

Every role is essential! Students who don’t receive lead roles are encouraged to take on ensemble parts, backstage roles, or tech crew to gain experience for future productions.

Parental Involvement

How can parents be involved?

Parents are expected to contribute by:
Volunteering (hospitality, fundraising, backstage, concessions)
Supporting discipline enforcement (CCDC is not a drop-off program)
Helping with set building, costumes, or other production needs

Can parents have more say in how the club is run?

While parents do not have voting power, their involvement and structured feedback are valued. Parents who consistently volunteer and lead within the club have influence and may be considered for leadership roles.

Policies & Conduct

How does CCDC enforce rules and discipline?

CCDC expects professionalism, respect, and adherence to Catholic values, as well as strong support from parents and volunteers.

What happens if a student violates the rules?

Consequences depend on the severity of the issue. Repeated or serious infractions may result in role reassignment or removal from the production.

Why are cell phones banned during rehearsals and performances?

Phones distract from rehearsals, break immersion, and interfere with performance focus. CCDC enforces a strict no-phone policy to maintain discipline and professionalism. To ensure focus and professionalism, phones must be placed in a common holding area during rehearsals. Unauthorized phone use will result in confiscation and parental notification.

Club Operations & Future Planning

Will CCDC consider structured parent feedback?

Yes. Leadership is evaluating options for formalized feedback opportunities while maintaining CCDC’s structured governance model.

How does CCDC choose what improvements to make?

Leadership reviews any formal/informal feedback after each production and makes adjustments where possible, balancing artistic integrity, audience experience, and logistical feasibility.

How does CCDC ensure student safety?

CCDC follows a strict Youth Protection Policy, including:
Virtus training for supervising adults
Two-deep adult presence for youth activities
Background checks for designated roles
